(David Crowe is co-owner of the mansion and the institution's manager. He's also a morbid little man who wrote his own patient file.)

Patient File #000
Name : David Rascombe
Age : 23
Height : 6'3"
Weight : 158 lbs
Physical Description : slender / hazel eyes / brown hair

Condition : Clinical Depression
Symptoms :
    * Misanthropic hermitude.
    * Insomnia
    * Feelings of worthlessness
    * Asexuality

History : Raised in the business, his father was the manager and chief doctor of a mental institution. David has an unhealthy attachment to cases of dementia, because caring for the mentally ill is the only thing he knows how to do. He began helping out with his father's business as soon as he could walk, and by the age of 16 was capable of managing the institute entirely on his own, though it didn't become necessary until years later.

When David was 14, his father remarried. A single mother who had a son several years older than himself, David hated her and his father alike. He had always known his father for a womanizer, and hated every woman he was with, considering them betrayals of his own mother. It was slight comfort to him to know that his father cheated similarly on his second wife. The son was a particular grievance, spoiled and selfish with a well-pampered sense of superiority. The boys hated each other at once, and David was grateful when his step-brother at last went away to college. (David himself earned no education above high school. He passed up the opportunity in favor of his sense of duty, and stayed to take care of his ailing father.)

When his father began to show signs of dementia, David hid the evidence and treated his father himself, hiding the malaise from patients and other doctors until he degenerated too far into madness. He ran the business himself for several years, until his father's decline and death brought about the termination of the facility.

After David's father passed away, he found that he had been left with a certain amount of money for inheritance, and the deed to an abandoned mansion in the Canadian Rockies. The only problem was that it was left to him jointly, with his step-brother. Efforts were made to contact the brother, but to no avail, and David inherited in absentia. He is deeply clogged in paperwork and incredibly handicapped by this joint inheritance. He continues to make efforts to contact his step-brother, to no success. Until he can be found or legally presumed dead, David is in a legal stalemate over his brother's half of the money and the ownership of the mansion.

Still struggling with the legal issues, David flew to visit the mansion and fell in love with the place at once, quickly thinking up a dream to fix it up and begin a small private practice of his own. He approached Nicolai Falstrom, a doctor who had worked for his father, and asked him to help. Nicolai had two things David desperately needed: money, and a medical license. With Nicolai's family money and David's half of the inheritance, the two of them were able to renovate the mansion for use as a hospital. The Rascombe institute was officially opened a year later.

Personality : Introverted and obsessed with details, David handles all the day-to-day affairs of the institution. He is the one who sees to it there is enough food for everyone, keeps firewood for heating, and makes sure that the windmill keeps functioning properly. (The windmill was his own doing, being convinced that despite the initial expense of installation, the eventual cost of wind-generated electricity would be much cheaper and more reasonable than a gas generator which requires refilling at least once a week, especially when the mansion is prone to being snowed in for months at a time.) He single-handedly taught himself windmill repair and maintenence, much like he taught himself medicine. He has no university degrees, but he took a few online courses, and years of hands-on experience. He's memorized textbooks, and although Malachi continually shows him up in terms of technical knowledge and skill, many of the patients prefer David's sensible realism.

Notes : Still a virgin. Probably gay. Very, very closeted.
